Come and join Martin Kenney at the 15th #C5Fraud Fraud, Asset Tracing & Recovery Geneva (virtual) conference.
Martin will be interviewing Deborah Connor, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Chief of the Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section, about the ongoing asset recovery effort in the famous #1MDB case.
U.S. and Malaysian authorities say a total of about $4.5 billion was taken from 1MDB – an institution co-founded in 2009 by then-premier Najib Razak, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a $49 million fine last year (which he is appealing). One of the stranger facets of this case was the DoJ assertion that a film production company (co-founded by Razak’s stepson) had financed three films, including “The Wolf of Wall Street” featuring Leonardo Di Caprio, using funds it suspected were stolen from 1MDB.
